# Google auto-indexing

Getting the SEO basics right makes your app eligible for search. Google auto-indexing goes a step further: Vaulter actively registers your published app with Google, so your pages can show up sooner.

## What it does

Normally, getting a new site into Google properly means verifying ownership in Google Search Console and submitting a sitemap by hand. Vaulter does the whole sequence for you:

1. **Verifies your app's domain with Google**, by serving the verification proof directly from your live app.
2. **Registers the site in Google Search Console.**
3. **Submits your sitemap**, so Google knows exactly which pages to crawl.

This runs continuously in the background, so a freshly published app gets put in front of Google within minutes of going live, not whenever you remember to do the paperwork.

## It works in both directions

The same process keeps things tidy when circumstances change. If your app stops qualifying for search, for example you make it collaborator-only, or switch indexing off, Vaulter withdraws the sitemap too. Your search presence tracks your actual intent, automatically.

## What you need

- A **published** app on a **paid plan**. Free apps are [kept out of search](/docs/growth/seo) by design, so auto-indexing does not apply to them.
- A **public** app. Collaborator-only apps are never indexed.
- A live domain, either your `vaulter.run` address or a [custom domain](/docs/publish/buy-a-domain).

There is nothing to turn on. If your app qualifies, it happens.

> Indexing is not instant on Google's side. Even with everything submitted, it can take Google days to start showing pages in results, especially for brand-new domains. Auto-indexing removes every manual step and starts the clock as early as possible; the waiting that remains is Google's, not yours.
