# Billing

> Manage your subscription, payment method, and invoices from account settings.

Everything about paying for Vaulter lives in account settings: your plan, payment method, invoices, and token purchases. This page covers the operations, in the order people need them.

## Where it all lives

Open your account menu and choose account settings:

- **Billing.** Your payment method and active billing items.
- **Invoices.** Your billing history, every invoice downloadable.
- **Tokens.** Your token pool, usage, and top-up purchases.
- **Teams.** The workspaces you belong to.

Billing is per workspace: a Teams workspace has its own subscription, paid by its owner, separate from your personal workspace's plan.

## Changing plans

- **Upgrading takes effect immediately.** Pay through the standard checkout and the features unlock as soon as payment completes.
- **Moving up the token ladder** on Starter and Pro (choosing a bigger monthly allowance) is also immediate.
- **Downgrading and canceling follow the period you paid for.** You keep what you paid for until the period ends, then the new plan applies. Nothing is deleted by any plan change: projects, data, and published apps stay, and [paid features lock rather than vanish](/docs/account/plans).

## Monthly and yearly

Starter and Pro can be billed yearly at a discount; the pricing page shows both prices. Teams is billed monthly, per seat. On Teams, adding a paid seat mid-cycle charges only the prorated difference for the remainder of the cycle, so inviting someone on day 20 does not cost a full month.

## Buying tokens

Top-ups are one-time token purchases for paid plans, from 1M to 200M tokens, bought in the **Tokens** panel:

- They **never expire** and roll forward until spent.
- They are spent **after** your monthly pool, and they [bypass the daily cap](/docs/account/tokens), which makes them the right tool for a launch-week push.
- **Auto top-up**, in the same panel, buys a bucket you choose automatically whenever the pool falls below a trigger you set (5% to 30% remaining), so a team never stalls at zero mid-build.

## When a payment fails

A declining card does not cut you off: your plan enters a grace period of about two weeks while the charge is retried. Fix the card in the Billing panel and the next retry clears it. If the charge never succeeds, the workspace moves to the Free plan; everything you built stays.

## Refunds and disputes

If a charge looks wrong, contact [support](/docs/reference/troubleshooting) with the invoice reference before disputing with your bank; most issues are resolved faster that way. One mechanical consequence worth knowing: refunding a token top-up removes the refunded tokens from the pool.

## Frequently asked

#### Where do I get a receipt for accounting?

The Invoices panel holds every invoice. Each one is a standard Stripe invoice, suitable for expense claims and bookkeeping.

#### I upgraded mid-month. When does my token pool renew?

Your token period follows your billing period, anchored to the day you subscribed, not the calendar month. The [Tokens page](/docs/account/tokens) shows your current period's dates.

#### Who pays for a Teams workspace?

The workspace owner holds the subscription and the payment method. Members never see a charge; their seat is part of the owner's per-seat bill.

#### Can I switch between monthly and yearly billing?

Switching an existing subscription's interval is currently done for you: contact support and we will move you without losing time you have paid for.
